One technique of ‘reputation management’ pushes bad content / opinions (content which hurts the firm’s reputation) down ‘below the fold’ by pushing irrelevant or superfluous content ‘above the fold.’
The target audience is none the wiser as the audience only sees the desirable or irrelevant content while the content which is not desirable gets pushed to the bottom of social media or search results.
Another tactic utilized by reputation management firms is to hire people (real or otherwise), voluntary or paid, to ‘like’ a post or the inverse to ‘dislike’ a post which negatively affects the firm’s reputation.
Reputation management is a big business these days, and there are firms which get paid lots of money to manage the reputation of their clients. Still other firms have in-house reputation management staff.
So the next time you see ‘bs’ content on the top supported by lots of ‘people,’ you might be witnessing a firm which is managing their reputation.
These are only a few examples of ‘reputation management.’ The reader is encouraged to explore other tactics utilized to distort the public image of a firm or firms.
For example, threatening to sue a person or persons for exercising their right to free speech is yet another tactic in the tool belt. And reputation management can also be used to harm another firm or individual’s reputation.
The reader needs only to google ‘reputation management’ to explore more tactics.
Where have you seen these and other ‘reputation management’ tactics before? Is it moral and lawful to leverage public resources or captivation to this end?
For the longest time, well ever since I took StealthMachines to a booth at PAX in 2012, I’ve noticed the shadow banning of StealthMachines. That’s been hard for me, as I love my little company.
One would think, in paying more for more customers, you would receive the same. This did not happen for me. It was the opposite!
I used to be able to fly under the radar, being small and nimble, and when I finally actually advertised, stretched, and grew I discovered the existence of certain glass ceilings in well, all of the industries I’ve partaken.
Additionally, the past several years with hardly any orders making it through past our gatekeeping merchant providers (read: the entire reason I founded Charg Coin (CHG) to overcome financial censorship), have also seen a huge uptick in exploitive and fraudulent transactions. These exploits, in my opinion, are not organic. Well some of them are, but none of these people are being directed to the front of my website. And there really are many fraudulent transactions. I just had to refund one yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that, for WeCharg.com. It really is tiring losing pennies, death by a thousand tiny cuts, rather than just focusing on building stuff.
If it weren’t for my repeat customers, I might have never made it to today with Stealth.

What is UNDUE INFLUENCE in this context? What pretenses render FORCED NDA’s a nullity? What about tricking someone into signing an NDA? What is a pre-meditated cattle trough in this context? Why doesn’t this firm seem to have any negative reviews, anywhere? What is financial leverage?
