"Stockholm Syndrome is a natural response to a traumatic event such as being evacuated which helps to minimize or buffer psychological damage to a given victim.
While most are only here to help, and are appreciated, it is also important to acknowledge the reality of the situation as removed from emotion. This is not possible until after some time to reflect after being completely removed from danger for quite a long time.

For example, if a rogue power company were to cause a fire for nefarious interests, they might even be thanked by their victims until months or more likely years later when more facts present themselves. However, even if confronted with facts conflicting with perceived experience, it is possible and even likely to continue to assert Stockholm attitudes towards the aggressors, often expressing as the bargaining stage of grief. Further, grief is certainly not a linear process, and it is widely held that the stages of grief are rarely if ever arrived at serially nor in full all at once.
We even see such syndrome expressed today in many for events experienced half a decade or more long since, particularly if the consequences of the final stage of grief known as acceptance are weighty, which they often are by definition in such cases.
Stockholm Syndrome is also likely to be experienced by rescue workers who do not have time in the heat of the moment to properly assess the subtleties of their surroundings. This coupled with another psychological paradox known as group think reduces or eliminates the individual’s ability to discern fact from fiction unless or until removed from the group, presented with facts, and given ample time to restore individual calculation of circumstance. Even still, some who realize these parameters are less than willing to abandon the group’s own thinking, or other incentives to adhere to the group’s doctrine, and again the weight of consequence of acceptance stage is often too hard to bear until tomorrow.
This is why we often say God bless only the good fruit around here. As most are good and only trying to help, it only takes a few bad apples in power companies, in municipalities, in the media to start and coax a 600,000+ acre fire in winter without mass detection. Look here, don’t look over there.

And, this is why we re-assert the oath to the US and state constitutions, which are Supreme to and override communal allegiances for law abiding rescuers who take the proper time to reflect away from perceived prevailing winds."

“In triage, if a victim is asked “what year is it,” and the victim is not able to answer correctly, the first responder is trained to move on to the next victim who is more likely to survive until more help can arrive.
This is akin to instilling awareness in others. Unless and until more help can arrive, it is the victim’s only chance to self-rescue unless and until more help arrives.
If resources are lacking, a victim who cannot answer correctly is not skipped for lack of care, but rather because it is more likely to save with higher probability if a first responder can work on those who are most likely to survive.
This stark reality is contrasted by the unfortunate reality that unless and until more rescue can arrive, there is very little chance in reality of saving the one over the other, unless more help arrives or the victim is again able to find themselves cognizant of the reality of the need to self-rescue, or to perceive the reality of their environment.
If someone who experiences a trauma is still in danger of another trauma and has not yet been able to remove themselves from the situation, it is often only a higher power which had intervened to prevent one tragedy from bleeding into the next. This is the profound importance of belief in a higher power, or if the reader prefers, the shear will to survive a difficult reality and circumstance.
Then there is the little-discussed psychology of the rescuer becoming the victim. They who were supposed to be the hero ended up another of the victims, and as in the case of a leader those who fall with the leader had been the moral responsibility of such a leader as this. What a powerful blow to the ego this must have been. What courage it must take for such one to admit “I was wrong.” And again, bargaining. Not likely to overcome in short order by either the leader, nor the team. And yet, possessing this kind of courage must surely be the most courageous kind of all, rare as gold..
Finally, if there is a finally, there is the macro or big picture. As in the case of the macro, it is of little use for the individual to survive much anything without ensuring the healthy environment, in spite of bargaining tendencies to the otherwise. This is not to be confused with the team as prior addressed. This in reference to the big picture.”

Firefighters, remember your oaths to the state and American Constitutions.
